Twinkle will be at the Mission Bazaar on May 17th and 18th at the Armory in the Mission district in San Francisco . This event should be a fun one with lots of shopping opportunities. We will be giving a sneak peak of our upcoming Fall/Winter collection!

There will be music, food, and all sorts of entertainment. And the location is a unique one – at the Armory, a reproduction of a Moorish castle which was completed in 1914 and has not been open to the public in the past 30 years. So come and check it out!

Patchwork Show: Lessons Learned May 6, 2008

patchworkbooth.jpgOn Sunday, I attended the Patchwork Show in Santa Ana which was organized by Nicole of RandomNicole.com and her aunt Delilah of Road Less Traveled, an eco-chic boutique. It was a gorgeous day with plenty of California sunshine and a nice breeze and there was a pretty good turnout, despite the location being a little hard to find.

We have done a few craft shows in the past (Craft Republic and Bazaar Bizarre) and have learned a few things each time we did them. This time was no different. Since this was our first outdoor show, there were some new challenges we faced:

  • The sun: Normally, I love the weather here. I love that I don’t have to wear my jacket year-round like I did when I lived in the Bay Area.  Sunday was no exception.  However, a bit of shade would have been nice, so I’ll definitely bring a tent to our next outdoor show. At least I got a nice tan!
  • The wind: The Santa Ana winds kicked up a bit yesterday, cooling me off when the sun started to get too hot. Our displays didn’t appreciate it as much. We had made some pretty new displays for Bazaar Bizarre, but as soon as I put them up, the wind knocked them over. Luckily I had our old displays with me. We’ll have to re-think the design for next time.

Despite these challenges, I still had a great time meeting people and selling our jewelry. This was a good learning experience and I’ll definitely apply these lessons to other fairs we do in the future.

As for customer favorites, there were some old ones and new ones on Sunday. The Lotus Necklace and Peacock Earrings continued to top the list but the Sunflower Necklace and the Oceana Bracelet were popular too.   Check out these and our other great styles on our website.

Lastly, thanks to all of you who showed up to support Twinkle.  We really appreciate you coming out to see us.  Hope to see you at our next fair!

VH1 Big Shopping Day March 14, 2008

Filed under: Event, In the Media — shoptwinkle @ 11:30 pm

The VH1 Third Annual BIG Shopping Day is coming up on Saturday, April 26, 2008 in Los Angeles.

“Old Hollywood Glamour meets Rock ‘N Roll for the ultimate shopping experience – all to benefit VH1 Save The Music’s work to restore instrumental music education in U.S. public schools.”

Whose gonna be there? Here are some to name a few:

Host Committee to include: Christina Applegate, Tova Bonem,Daisy Fuentes, Tim Gunn, Neil Patrick Harris, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Lenny Kravitz, Benji Madden, Joel Madden, Lara Morgenson Mya, Sara Ramirez, Kelly Rowland, Alison Sweeney, Raven Symone, Michael Urie, Chris Webber, Pete Wentz, Vanessa Williams, Venus Williams, and more…

If you’d like to purchase tickets, you can buy them from the VH1 Save the Music Foundation website.

Why is this so important to us? With public school budgets getting cut year after year, and programs such as music and arts disappearing from American children’s education, we feel it is our responsibility to take action and help bring it back. So please come and support this cause by attending, donating, or even by shopping!

Yes shopping! From now until April 30th, Twinkle is going to donate 10% of proceeds from the sale of the Olive Crush Necklace, to the VH1 Save the Music Foundation. Why the Olive Crush? Because these will be included in the VIP Gift Bags for the Big Shopping Day in LA. So, be your own VIP, buy the Olive Crush and save the Music! ;)

Colors! So many to choose from. What color jewelry is right for you? March 4, 2008

Filed under: Tips — shoptwinkle @ 11:07 pm

Most of us already know that certain colors can make us absolutely glow or just look plain drab. If it’s been a hit and miss for you, then this little tutorial should be helpful. Or if you’re already your own color expert, read on to see if this jives with your theory!

WINTER
You are Winter if: You have blue or pink/rosy undertones in your skin. You have skintone that is very pale or olive or dark. Many people of african or asian descent fall into this category, as well as caucasians with very pale skin, dark hair, and strongly colored eyes.

Colors for Winter: The best colors are those that are strong, bold and intense. Like black, navy blue, red, and yes, even hot pink! For lighter colors, wear icy pastels like cool blues, pinks, and yellows.

Not Winter’s friend: Try to avoid browns and beiges. Also orange and gold. They can make you look ashen or faded.

SUMMER
You are Summer if: You have blue and pink undertones like Winter. Your skintone is very light and always with a pinkish undertone. Summer people usually have ashy hair with colors ranging from platinum blonde to dark brown. Eyes are usually in the shades of greyish blue to green.

Colors for Summer: Pastels and cool muted colors work best for summers. Such as powder blue, dusty pink, mauves, and pale yellows. These will compliment your pale and pinkish skin!

Not Summer’s Friend: Summer’s should try not to wear black or orange or really strong colors as they will overpower your soft colors.

AUTUMN
You are Autumn if: You have golden undertones in your skin and have warm skintone. A lot of redheads and brunettes fall in this season. Autumns tend to have dark eyes.

Colors for Autumn: Rich and warm, earthy tones are the colors for you. Wear colors like caramel, beige, oranges, gold, dark brown. And warm grey will look hot on you.

Not Autumn’s friend: Steer clear of pastels and anything with blue tones. They will just look blah on you.

SPRING
You are Spring if: People falling into this season usually have a peachy undertone. Springs usually have a very light ivory skin color with golden blonde, auburn, or strawberry blonde hair. Springs tend to have pale eyes.

Colors for Spring: Colors like coral, peach, camel, – anything bright and fresh colored.

Not Spring’s friend: Try to avoid muted colors as it will make you look dull and high contrast blacks and whites.

Live Fast Stay Pretty February 26, 2008

Tequila Sunrise Bracelet

The “Live Fast Stay Pretty” shirt I found on BlueFly by Jake’s Dry Goods. I love the color as well as the slogan. For this shirt I recommend the Peacock Rouge earrings to match the details of the shirt or a little wrist decor with the Tequila Sunrise bracelet. Cute!

Colada Twist – Cravin’ the warm weather February 13, 2008

Being cooped up indoors for the past few months had me craving for warmer weather. Unfortunately my vacation to the Bahamas has yet to be planned (nor will it ever be planned unless someone wants to generously fund it? anyone?) so all I could do was to imagine the warm climate in my mind’s eye and try to re-produce that vision through jewelry design. Thus, the Colada Twist Necklace.

This necklace is definitely ready for spring and summer wear with it’s light wood rice shaped beads and a punch of espresso twist wood. This will have you dreaming of breezy sarongs, coconut drinks and ocean waves lapping at your toes. Try it!

Keepin’ it Shiny? How to care for your sterling silver. February 12, 2008

We’ve gotten a few questions on how to keep sterling silver jewelry from tarnishing. Here are a few tips to keepin’ it shiny.

Storage
To prevent your sterling silver jewelry from tarnishing, keep them in a cool dry place, ideally in an airtight jewelry box. I personally use the McKenna jewelry box from Pottery Barn. But to take it a step further, it’s a good idea to keep each piece in a tarnish prevention cloth or bag or even an anti-tarnish ziplock. This keeps it airtight and also protects it from getting scratched by other pieces of jewelry.

Care
It’s a good idea to regularly clean or polish your sterling silver jewelry to prevent tarnish build up. You can use silver polish or solutions to do this, like this cloth polish from Amazon. If you have some jewelry that is showing a bit of tarnish, it is still possible to salvage them using this method.

With these tips, we hope that your sterling silver stays shiny and bright!
